YouTube Hashtag Generator

YouTube hashtags work differently from every other platform: you place them in the description, and YouTube displays up to three of them as clickable links above your video title. Add more than fifteen and YouTube ignores all of them — so this is a game of choosing exactly the right two or three.

This generator gives you focused hashtag options for your topic: your main keyword as a tag, your category tag and a format tag (tutorial, shorts, review). Pick three that describe this video precisely.

How it works

Enter your video topic, click Generate, and choose a set of up to three hashtags. Paste them at the end of your description (our YouTube Description Generator has a slot for them). For Shorts, you can also include them naturally in the Short's title.

Frequently asked questions

How many hashtags should a YouTube video have?

Three is ideal — those are the ones YouTube displays above your title. You may include a few more in the description, but never exceed 15 or all are ignored.

Where do YouTube hashtags go?

In the video description (they display above the title), or in the title itself for Shorts. Tags in the separate 'tags' field are a different feature — see our Tag Generator.

Do hashtags help Shorts?

Modestly. #Shorts plus one or two topic tags help categorisation, but the first second of the Short and its completion rate matter far more.

Can hashtags contain spaces?

No. Multi-word hashtags are written joined together, like #HomeWorkout. Spaces end the hashtag.

Is this generator free?

Yes, free with no sign-up; it runs locally in your browser.
