TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator

TikTok breaks the usual engagement maths. On Instagram a post mostly meets your followers; on TikTok a video can be shown to a hundred times your follower count — or quietly stall at 200 views. So a single 'engagement rate' hides two different questions: of the people who actually watched, how many engaged (rate by views), and how does your engagement compare with your follower base (rate by followers)? This calculator answers both.

Enter your average likes, comments, shares and saves per video — average your last 10–15 videos from TikTok Analytics — plus your typical views and followers. You get both rates, a rating for the by-views figure (the one that best reflects content quality), and a breakdown of your interaction mix, because on TikTok the type of engagement matters almost as much as the amount.

Shares deserve a special mention. A like is a nod; a share is a viewer spending their own credibility to send your video to a friend, and TikTok's recommendation system treats it accordingly. If you optimise for one number after using this calculator, make it shares per view.

Now schedule it — consistency is the actual growth hack

Creating the content is half the job. The other half is showing up on schedule, week after week, which is exactly what the free SocialMediaSchedular app is for: plan, queue and schedule posts for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X and LinkedIn from one dashboard.

How it works

In TikTok, open Profile → Creator tools → Analytics → Content, and note likes, comments, shares and views for your last 10–15 videos; average each column (skip any video that went massively viral — it will bend the average beyond usefulness). Enter the averages above along with your follower count, then click Calculate. The by-views rate uses (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100; the by-followers rate divides the same interactions by followers.

  1. Open TikTok Analytics and list your last 10–15 videos (exclude any extreme viral outlier).
  2. Average the likes, comments, shares, saves and views across those videos.
  3. Enter the averages and your current follower count above.
  4. Click Calculate and compare the by-views and by-followers rates.

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

Because TikTok distributes so heavily to non-followers, healthy rates by views run higher than Instagram's. The bands below are the ones most commonly used by creator agencies when they assess TikTok accounts:

Rate by viewsRatingTypical interpretation
Below 2%LowHooks are not landing, or videos are being shown to the wrong audience. Fix the first 3 seconds first.
2% – 5%AverageNormal working range for many accounts. Consistency plus hook testing moves this up.
5% – 10%GoodStrong content-audience fit; the range brands look for when shortlisting creators.
Above 10%ExcellentHighly relatable or useful content with strong sharing. Study these videos and make more like them.

TikTok publishes no official benchmark, and rates vary by niche — comedy and pets often run hot, B2B and finance cooler but more valuable per viewer. Track your own rate month to month; the trend is the real score.

By views or by followers — which should you quote to brands?

Quote the by-followers rate if a brand asks for a single comparable number, because follower counts are public and verifiable, and mention your average views alongside it. But judge your own content by the by-views rate: it is the only version that isolates how watchers responded from how widely TikTok happened to distribute the video. A great video shown to a cold audience can post a poor by-followers rate and a superb by-views one — and it is the second figure that tells you to make more videos like it. When you are ready to turn these numbers into a price, the TikTok Money Calculator uses the same inputs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TikTok engagement rate formula?

(Likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100 for the by-views rate, or ÷ followers × 100 for the by-followers rate. This calculator shows both, because on TikTok they answer different questions.

Why do I need average views AND followers?

Because TikTok distributes videos far beyond your followers. Dividing only by followers makes rates look wild and incomparable; dividing by views measures how the people who actually watched responded.

Which interactions count — are saves included?

Likes, comments and shares are the classic three. Saves (favourites) are included here when you enter them, and they matter: a saved video is one TikTok expects the viewer to return to, which supports longer-term distribution.

My rate by followers is over 100% — is the calculator broken?

No — that genuinely happens when a video is pushed to far more people than follow you, and those viewers engage heavily. It is a good problem: it means the For You feed is your main growth engine right now.

Is this calculator free? Do you need my TikTok login?

Free, and no login is needed or wanted. Never enter your TikTok password into a calculator website; this one runs entirely in your browser on numbers you type.
